A dog is said to be man’s best friend. Several times that they were accused as killers due to some incidents that triggered their fear to die and to defend themselves from various threats that may cause them harm or killed. At some point, some of the animals that we are thinking to be kind and cute can also harm others in an unexpected occurrence.
The founders of “Pit Bulls of Victoria BC,” Javiera Rodriguez and Kyla Grover, creates a group of pit bull owners and organized a weekly walk together with their pets to show that not all pit bulls are aggressive. Bandida, Rodriguez’s three-year-old pit bull, and Cali, Grover’s pit bull mix, were in the pack along with five others as they passed in a yard where a woman was gardening.
A cat was running closer to Bandida’s direction and scratched her face right away. The cat’s owner kept on shouting to get the dog and same with Rodriguez who also shouted to get the cat. Bandida held the cat down to defend herself and to stop the cat from scratching her, and none of the other dogs fought back. Grover desperately dove in to split the two but it also scratched and bitten her arms. The woman was very angry, yelling that her cat was almost killed by Bandida. Rodriguez defended her and explained that it was not Bandida’s intention to kill the cat, she can but she did not. It was her only way to defend herself from the attacking cat. The woman took in silence and Rodriguez checked the scratches on Bandida’s bloody face, and the cat did not have any, nor a single tiny one.
Rodriguez took Bandida to the vet to have the wounds treated and resulting to $222 bill. Luckily, they were not seriously deep and did not need any stitches. Grover was also treated with tetanus shot and antibiotics because of her injuries.
The next day, Rodriguez returned to the cat owner’s house. The owners asked for an apology and wrote her a cheque to cover the bill of Bandida’s vet. She then explained that all she wanted is for the fair treatment of all the animals. If dogs must be leash upon going out for a walk, cats must be the same. Also, the law in the city about this matter is only for dogs, none for cats.
Bandida became less playful after the incident. Now, she became very needy for attention unlike before. This only shows that all the prejudices about pit bulls are wrong. Their attitudes will depend on how you will raise them, care for them, and love them. Rodriguez then said that “People need to realize that pit bulls are not bad dogs.”
