Mrs. Brandon Young, a second-grade elementary teacher of Godley Elementary School in Godley, Texas, creates a “No Homework” policy for her class for a year. Upon the event of “Meet-The-Teacher” on their school, she posted the said note so everyone could read.
In her letter, she indicated that after doing her research about this matter, she finally made the decision of not giving any homework to her students for a year. Young said that homework just consists of the unfinished work of the students, and she wanted that parents will spend time with their kids rather than do their homework. Young also reprimanded that research has been unable to prove that homework improves student’s performance, instead, spending time with family might be. Students, with the help of their parents, should eat with their family, read together, play outside, and should get to bed early rather than doing homework.
Samantha Gallagher, a parent of Brooke who is in Mrs. Young’s class, shared a photo of this letter on the social media and it has been shared more than 68,000 times. She and her husband are very happy with the policy made by her daughter’s teacher. Brooke, nowadays, has more free time on doing the things that she wanted such as practicing gymnastics, read, and play. It also gives her daughter a positive outlook upon starting the school year. Parents feel very fortunate for having an amazing and innovative teacher who thinks very well for the good of her students.
