Twenty-four year old Harnaam Kaur from Slough, Berkshire, a model with a six-inch long facial hair became the envy of most men when she became a recipient of the Guinness World Record for the youngest woman in the world to have grown a full beard, which some men in the same age have trouble even growing a mustache and goatee.
According to Kaur, such award was indeed very awe-inspiring and humbling at the same time. She described her beard as the peak of her journey towards overcoming years of awful insecurities and bullying in constantly hoping to come to terms and acceptance with her appearance.
Kaur’s condition is medically caused by polycystic ovary syndrome which is a hormonal condition that affects the appearance of women brought about by imbalances of estrogen and testosterone levels of the body which are chiefly responsible for the secondary sex characteristics of males and females. Such imbalance of hormones results in her increased facial hair.
In March 2016, she was dubbed as the first ever woman with a beard to walk the runway at the London Fashion Week. She did not shy away from the cameras and interviews regarding her appearance for according to her it’s what makes her stand out, literally.
